When Hot Water Is Too Hot

Hot water is fantastic, but there are times when hot water can be too hot, such as after your water heater is replaced.

As homeowners and tenants, we tend to make due with our hot water until it runs out. And sometimes we make due with lukewarm or cold water too. After having your water heater replaced, you may notice that your hot water is suddenly very hot. After having my water heater replaced a couple years ago, I noticed that the water water very hot in the shower and from faucets. Here are some quick tips to deal with hot water after your water heater has been replaced.

1. Check the temperature setting on your water heater. New tanks are set at 120-140 degrees fahrenheit. If it is higher than this, set the temperature to 140, and if it is set at 140, turn the temperature down to 120 degrees. (This is what I did.)

2. Mix your water differently. We tend to mix our water absentmindedly as it becomes second-nature to turn the hot and cold knobs on the faucet or move the shower handle to a particular place. After having your hot water tank replaced, you may need to pay attention to how much you turn the knobs and handles to prevent scaling.
