How can I recycle my water?

There are no restrictions to what you do with your recycled water! Read this blog to learn some ways you can conserve and recycle water at home.

Install a rain barrel: These are used to collect rain water to use for later use. If purchased from a home hardware type store, they can cost quite a bit, but you can also make your own.

Use empty buckets: Keep any empty buckets that might be out in your garden or yard upturned so that they will collect and hold water when it rains (or sno when it has fallen and melted). This water can be stored in your rain or recycled water barrel to water your lawn or garden in warmer months.

Collect overflow water from your plants: Ever notice how water can run out the bottom when you water a potted plant? Instead of letting that water drip away, save it! Place your potted plants into a deeper container or tray in order to collect the water and you can use it to water other plants and continue this until you get them all. You could also implement an indoor automatic watering system for potted plants to keep them watered and fed.

Save pasta water: If you’re cooking up a pot of pasta or vegetables, save the water! When straining the pasta, put another pot underneath to catch the water. This water shouldn’t be left for too many days, but if you plans to have pasta the day after you can re-use it or water your garden with it.

Use a shower bucket: This may sound odd but it’s probably one of the best ways to save and recycle water. We often wait for the water to warm up in the shower, but what about all that water that goes down the drain? Use a bucket or pot to collect the water you run in anticipation. You’ll be surprised at the amount of water you collect!

Reusing excess drinking water: Not for drinking, of course. Cups with some extra water that didn’t get consumed can be fed it to your plants or garden. House plants will love it even if you don’t. If you happen to be enjoying a cup of unsweetened tea, your house plants will also enjoy that.

Save your veggie bath water: When you need to wash your vegetables, place them in a colander above a large pot and collect the excess water that falls when you clean them. This can be used for your garden or for flushing your toilet.
